Open/Closed Status of FWC-managed Areas

Open/Closed Status Related to Hurricane Irma

  • Monroe County - FWC offices and operations (to include all staff that live and/or work) in Monroe County will remain closed through Sunday, September 24th.
  • Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter and Volusia Counties - FWC office and operations (to include all staff that live and/or work) in these counties are open Friday, September 15th EXCEPT for the following: Richloam Bass Conservation center (no public access).

Northeast Region - The following FWC managed public areas are closed. Upon reopening, they will be removed from this list. Some public areas are open but may contain additional road/canal/unit/etc. closures as a result of storm activity. You can review these closures below by WMA.

  • Charles H Bronson WMA
  • Fellsmere Area 1 PSGHA
  • Fort Drum WMA

Northeast Region road/canal/unit closures - The following FWC managed public areas are open to public access but contain additional closures as a result of storm activity. Once reopened, they will be removed from this list.

  • Buck Lake WMA – The entrance at Morgan Alderman Road is closed until further notice. The west entrance off of SR 46 is walk-in only until further notice. The east entrance off of SR 46 is open, but with the following road closures: Road 1 from Six-Mile Creek west and at the SR 46 West parking area, Roads 3,4 and 5.
  • Caravelle Ranch WMA – The following roads are closed through 10/2/17: The last 0.5 mile of Midden Road beyond the posted signage, Rice Field Road at the cable gate and beyond including Spur and Spur A Roads, the west side of Sweetwater Grade where posted “Closed” and all of West T Road, and the west end of Horseshoe Road where posted and all of Deep Creek Road beyond the weather station.
  • Dexter Mary Farms Unit/Lake George WMA – Quarter’s Road from Fawn Road north to SR 40 (~1.2 miles) is closed through 10/19/17. Jim’s Road (~1.5 miles) is closed through 11/30/17.
  • Dunns Creek WMA - All roads are currently closed until further notice. Access on foot is permitted.
  • Emeralda Marsh Conservation Area (PSGHA) – Areas 3,5,&7 are closed until further notice. Area 6 is open for walk-in only. Areas 2 & 4 can be accessed via boat.
  • Gores Landing WMA – A 0.5 mile section of McLemore Road is closed through 10/10/17.
  • Herky Huffman/Bull Creek WMA - The northeastern portion of Loop Road from approximately 0.3 miles north of Yoke Branch to approximately 0.4 miles south of Yoke Branch and all seven Small Game Trails will remain closed through 9/22/17.
  • Lake George WMA – All or portions of the following roads are closed: Sampson Road (~0.5 miles), Spur Road (~0.3 miles), Buddy Martin Road (~0.9 miles), Pulp Road (~1.8 miles), Robinson Road (~0.5 miles), Old Bubbly Road (~1.5 miles) and Truck Trail 12.
  • Lake Panasoffkee WMA - A section of Jones Creek Trail, 1.8 miles south of the intersection with Triple B Loop, continuing south to its terminus is closed until further notice.
  • Ocala WMA – Many developed recreation sites (excluding the public shooting range) and the motorized and non-motorized trail systems remain closed until further notice.
  • Rima Ridge Unit/Tiger Bay WMA – A section of Danny Hole road from large culverts west (~0.5 miles) and Haw Creek Road (~1.3 miles) will remain closed through 10/19/17.
  • Salt Lake WMA – The following roads remain closed through 10/09/17: Snake Creek Grade, Boar Road, Switchgrass Road, South Lake Run Road and Bear Bluff Road 0.25 miles east of Snake Creek Grade.
  • Three Lakes WMA - Road 10 north of Fodderstack Slough will remain closed until further notice.
  • Tiger Bay WMA – Bear Island Road from Wampee Strand Road west to the powerlines (~1.9 miles) and Clark Bay Road approximately 0.5 miles from Service Road 1007 north to the Clark Bay Subdivision (~0.5 miles) will remain closed through 10/19/17. Dukes Island Road (~3.0 miles) will remain closed through 11/30/17.
  • Tosohatchee WMA - Lake Charlie Road south of Lake Charlie will remain closed through 9/29/17.
  • Upper St. Johns River Marsh WMA - The Moccasin Island Tract (Wickham Road) will remain closed until further notice. The C-54 Canal will remain closed until further notice.

North Central Region -The following FWC managed public areas are closed. Upon reopening, they will be removed from this list. Some public areas are open but may contain additional road/canal/unit/etc. closures as a result of storm activity. You can review these closures below by WMA.

  • Cypress Creek WMA
  • Potts WMA
  • Steinhatchee Springs WMA
  • Troy Springs WMA

North Central Region road/canal/unit closures - The following FWC managed public areas are open to public access but contain additional closures as a result of storm activity. Once reopened, they will be removed from this list.

  • Bayard WMA - All roads are closed until further notice. Access on foot is permitted.
  • Belmore WMA - Spring Road from East Boundary Road to Raccoon Road remains closed until further notice.
  • Cary WMA - Cypress Pond Road from Chicken Farm Road to No Catch Road, Powerline Road north of Big Oaks Road, and Grassy Road from Basin Road to Monticello Road remain closed until further notice.
  • Four Creeks WMA - Five Mile Road east of Saul's Landing Road and Four Creeks Road east of Cabin Road are closed until further notice.
  • Hatchet Creek WMA - The 1 mile portion of Two-bridge Road extending from the intersection with SR 26 is closed until further notice. A temporary vehicle access point is available off of SR 26, 1.1 miles east of the designated entrance (west side of the creek).
  • Jennings Forest WMA - Tar Flower Road remains closed until further notice.
  • Lochloosa WMA – Multiple roads and portions of roads (including portions of Burnt Island Road) are posted onsite as closed until further notice. 
  • Osceola WMA - The John M. Bethea State Forest portion remains closed until further notice. Ocean Pond and Hog Pen Landing campgrounds remain closed until further notice.
  • Raiford WMA - The 0.75 mile portion of Fire Road that lies 0.2 miles east of the intersection with Deer Road to the intersection with Pasture Road remains closed until further notice.
  • Ralph E. Simmons Memorial WMA - All roads are currently closed until further notice. Access on foot is permitted. 

South Region - The following FWC managed public areas are closed. Upon reopening, they will be removed from this list. Some public areas are open but may contain additional road/canal/unit/etc. closures as a result of storm activity. You can review these closures below by WMA.

  • Dinner Island Ranch WMA - Roads 6 and 8 remain closed until further notice.
  • Spirit-of-the-Wild WMA - Trail 4 remains closed until further notice.

Southwest Region - The following FWC managed public areas are closed. Upon reopening, they will be removed from this list. Some public areas are open but may contain additional road/canal/unit/etc. closures as a result of storm activity. You can review these closures below by WMA.

Southwest Region road/canal/unit closures - The following FWC managed public areas are open to public access but contain additional closures as a result of storm activity. Once reopened, they will be removed from this list.

  • Babcock Ranch Preserve - Cut-Off Road is closed until further notice.
  • Tenoroc FMA - Lost Lake East and West and their associated access roads are closed until further notice. The horseback trail from Point A to Point B as indicated on the closures map Adobe PDF is closed until further notice. 

Non-storm-related WMA/WEA and Other Openings

  • Lake Tohopekaliga - The S-61 Boat Lock has been reopened.
  • Big Bend Wildlife Management Area, Hickory Mound Unit - Road repair work on Swartz Tram on the Hickory Mound Unit has been completed and this road is now open.

Non-storm-related WMA/WEA and Other Closures

  • Everglades and Francis S. Taylor, Holey Land, And Rotenberger Wildlife Management Areas - Special regulations are in effect as of 12:01 a.m. on June 14, 2017 and shall remain in effect until rescinded by subsequent order. Due to high water levels associated with recent storm events the special regulations are as follows:
    1. The taking of game as defined in section 68A-l.004, F.A.C. is prohibited except ducks and coot may be taken in accordance with 68A-13.003, and frogging is allowed in accordance with 68A-15.004.
    2. Vehicles, airboats, ATVs and other public access are prohibited, except Conservation Area 2A from the L-35B levee north to the east-west airboat trail and except Conservation Area 3A South east of the Miami Canal between I-75 and the L-67A levee.
    3. This order shall not apply to persons permitted to participate in the statewide alligator hunts, migratory bird hunts, frogging, fishing, or persons operating boats within the established canal systems; however, airboats and tracked vehicles are not permitted for these activities. Access for these activities is limited to vessels only, and participants must maintain a minimum distance of 100 yards from any tree island to minimize disturbance to terrestrial wildlife jeopardized by high water conditions.
    4. Any provisions of Rule 68A-15.064 or 68A- 15.004, F.A.C., which are inconsistent herewith, are hereby superseded.
  • Big Bend Wildlife Management Area, Spring Creek Unit - Road repair work on Mule Wallow Spur on Spring Creek Unit has resumed and therefore this road has been closed for public safety reasons until September 22, 2017 or when the repairs are completed and the road is deemed safe for public travel.
  • Lake Tohopekaliga - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission requested the South Florida Water Management District close the S-61 Boat Lock because of navigational safety concerns due to low water levels. The S-61 enables boating navigation between Lake Tohopekaliga and Cypress Lake via the C-35 Canal in Osceola County.Closure is effective 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 14. The lock will reopen when conditions allow for safe navigation.
  • Dog Road 21 within Econfina Creek WMA is temporarily closed due to wet road conditions. Authorized access will be reinstated as road conditions allow.
  • Big Bend Wildlife Management Area - Hickory Mound Unit: All roads are open, except for the portions of Cow Creek Grade and Coker Road lying south of Swartz Tram (effectively closes Hickory Mound Impoundment to vehicular traffic. Foot, bicycle, and non-motorized access is allowed.) The public should exercise caution when walking through the woods while hunting, wildlife viewing, etc. in the storm damaged areas as there are a large number of downed trees, leaning trees, and trees with limbs or trunks broken up high that are hanging.
  • Picayune Strand - Due to current conditions, Triple G Loop Road is closed until further notice.
  • CREW WEA - Due to a restoration project, the following temporary closures are in effect: All hunting and other public access is prohibited on all portions of Flint Pen Strand and Bird Rookery Swamp Units south of Sand Road, west of the western North/South Tram Road, and north of Bonita Beach Road. Additionally, access is prohibited in the portion of Flint Pen Strand Unit located at the northeast intersection of Sand Road and Poorman’s Pass Road, extending north 900 yards and east to County Line Road.
  • Emeralda Marsh PSGHA - Area 3 will be closed to all public access until further notice due to construction projects on area dikes and related improvements to the area. Under the provisions of 68A-15.004(9) (a) F.A.C., this area will remain closed to public access until the improvements are completed.
